Description
Interlocking Characters Studios started by using historical newspapers to inspire the residents towards weaving for a purpose and developed into taking those specific textual characteristics combined with the action of weaving and looking at it in a whole new light. This studio is meant to push how these residents think of weaving, and interlocking will become the most significant part of how this space analyzes the craft. The studio is meant to be just as experiential as functional, so the residents are pushed to provide the interiority of their residency by weaving, which is what they are also there to do.

02: Concept Diagram
The concept diagram looks at how these free-standing walls, coming from the earlier weaving explorations, can interlock different characters to form one of the free-standing walls. Although these letters are not literal or should be readable through the walls, seeing how one could experiment with interlocking letters can inspire the resident in different ways. Weaving inspires connection, and this studio looks at the connection in a textual way. Residents are asked to take weaving to another level, and they can see it through this idea of abstracting the nature of weaving in a textural sense.
