Description
A Taste of Italy is designed to become a new Italian restaurant in Knoxville, Tennessee. A Taste of Italy attempts to reflect an authentic Italian experience seen throughout the architecture. The project was meant to encompass three words authenticity, quality service, and variety. The studio prioritized all of these attributes that make up a quality restaurant and could be used in the downtown area of Knoxville. Authenticity through the architecture, quality service through the workers, and variety through the food offered in A Taste of Italy. This restaurant is meant to truly indulge the customers in an Italian experience from the minute they walk through the door.

01: Site

A Taste of Italy is located in the Jackson Terminal, where it was soon transformed into a food hall filled with twelve students’ newly designed restaurants. The restaurant took this opportunity to create expansive arched windows towards the south side of the restaurant. It is also important to note how A Taste of Italy used the pre-existing columns and beams in the Jackson Terminal. The answer is through an arcade system that eventually hid those columns and beams and used them to place where they went in the restaurant systematically. This allowed A Taste of Italy to become more original through the interior.

02: Construction Documents

Construction Documents were produced the semester after A Taste of Italy studio. They were progressively worked on from the Spring Semester of 2021 to the Fall Semester of 2021. We experimented with Revit and the Enscape Plug-In to develop this set of documents and renderings. It is essential to note some design decisions were changed due to the final critique, such as the arcade system in the left render.
